Heat Pump Repair in Greater Pittsburgh

Heat pump not heating or cooling right? We will get it working again.

Comfort Back, Made Easy

A heat pump both heats and cools your home, so when it stops working right you feel it in any season. We are a technician-owned local shop, so the seasoned HVAC tradesperson who figures out your system is the one who does the work, and when you call, a real person from our own team answers, not a call center. We track down the real problem, fix it right, and give you an honest answer on whether a repair makes sense or whether it is time to think about a replacement system. Either way, you get a fair price up front and your comfortable home back. We are registered, insured, and local, serving homeowners across the Greater Pittsburgh area.

Signs Your Heat Pump Needs Repair

  • Blowing warm air in cooling mode or cool air in heating mode
  • Not keeping the house comfortable no matter the setting
  • Ice building up on the outdoor unit
  • The system runs constantly or will not turn on at all
  • Stuck in defrost or switching modes on its own
  • Loud, rattling, or grinding noises
  • Short-cycling, turning on and off too often
  • Heating or cooling bills climbing for no clear reason
  • Musty or burning smells when it runs

What Our Heat Pump Repair Covers

We handle the full range of residential heat pump repairs: refrigerant leaks, failed capacitors and contactors, compressors, reversing valves, fan and blower motors, defrost controls, dirty or damaged coils, and faulty thermostats. That includes ductless mini-splits, which are heat pumps too. Mini-splits have their own components and quirks, and we know how to diagnose and fix them properly. Because a heat pump works year round, we track down the real cause before recommending any work, and we will never talk you into parts you do not need. If the smart move is to replace rather than repair, we will say so plainly. Need help with a conventional system instead? We also handle furnace repair and AC repair. If you have lost heat or cooling in dangerous weather, see our emergency services.

Why Three Rivers

We are technician-owned, registered, and insured, and we live and work in the same Greater Pittsburgh neighborhoods we serve. Call us and a real person answers, and the tradesperson who shows up is the one doing the work, not a rotating franchise crew. We do not upsell. You get a fair price before the work begins, we fix what actually needs fixing, and we treat your home and your time with respect. Fast, fair, and friendly, every time.

Heat Pump Repair FAQs

Why is my heat pump running but not heating or cooling?

A unit that runs but will not heat or cool usually points to low refrigerant from a leak, a stuck reversing valve, a frozen coil, a dirty filter choking airflow, or a failing compressor or capacitor. Some of these are quick fixes and some are not. We find the actual cause first, then tell you what it takes to fix and what it will cost before we touch anything.

Why is my outdoor unit covered in ice?

A little frost in cold weather is normal, and heat pumps run a defrost cycle to clear it. Heavy or constant ice usually means the defrost control, sensor, or fan is not working right, or airflow is restricted. We will check the defrost system and the rest of the unit to find what is keeping it from clearing on its own.

Do you charge for a diagnostic?

Call us and we will tell you our diagnostic fee up front, before we head out, so there are no surprises. You will always know the price before any work begins, and we will never run up the bill with parts or labor you do not need.

Should I repair or replace my heat pump?

It comes down to the unit’s age, the cost of the repair, and how well it is still running. Frequent repairs on an older system often point toward replacement, while a newer unit is usually worth fixing. We will take an honest look and tell you straight. If a new system makes sense, our installation and replacement team can walk you through the options.
